- The objective of the Project “Submarine Outlet (Drainage Pipelines) for the Discharge of Saltwater proceeding from the Desalination of Sea Water in Cañada del Río” consists of defining the work necessary to return the water rejected by the Cañada del Río Desalination Plant in the Municipal District of Pájara, as well as evaluating the effects that this has on the marine and coastal environment, and defining the parameters of the pipeline to adapt it to the demands of the Instruction for the Project for Pipelines for Discharge from Land into the Sea, which establishes the conditions for authorisation of discharge through pipelines.
- A Drainage Pipeline was chosen for the discharge of Sea Water proceeding from the Desalination Plant, dividing the work projected into two hydraulic sections. The first section runs from the Desalination Plant at 8 metres above sea level, to a Surge Tank with 50 m3 capacity, projected at about 50 m from the Plant, at a height above sea level of 13 m, being 52.24 m in length; this achieves a control point for the discharge close to the sea. The second section begins at the Surge Tank, and ends at the point 11 m below sea level, at the discharge point.
- For the sections projected, a High Density Polyethylene was chosen, of a nominal diameter of 400 mm and 10 atm of nominal pressure, for Section I, with a length of 52.24 m, the same as for Section II, with a length of 1.218,90 m.
- The Diffuser System comprises a pipeline of High Density Polyethylene of a nominal diameter of 315 mm and 10 atm of pressure, with two diffuser outlets of a nominal diameter of 140 mm and 10 atm of nominal pressure, placed at the end of a Y-shaped T forming a 45º angle with the base at the end of the pipeline.
- In the section on land, the pipeline runs below ground in a trench with selected material and filled with materials from the excavation.
- In the marine section, in the breakwater area, the pipe runs underground in a trench with HM-20/P/20/I concrete and concrete based rockfill from the excavation. After this, the pipeline is projected as lying on the sea bed.
